With a vision to connect Delhi commuters with a premium experience, the project envisions the modernization and redevelopment of the city’s local bus terminals. During the development of public transportation in Delhi, previous governments had failed to incorporate basic public amenities such as waiting areas, water and toilet facilities, pick-up/drop-off points. Also, these public spaces were poorly lit and shelters were few and far which deter women, young and aged passengers and differently abled commuters from using the terminals. The proposal offered an opportunity to convert these underutilized urban voids into vibrant public hubs where commuters can access civic amenities in a well-designed, multifunctional public space. From the point of view of transport, these terminals are “future ready”. The design is modular and can expand to accommodate an array of functions suited to the location of the terminal within the city.
