A temporary entrance pavilion was designed for the Norwegian embassy in Delhi to mark the occasion of the Norwegian Constitution Day. The Embassy celebrates this event with a large gathering each year on 17th May every year. Our brief was to design a welcoming pavilion at the entrance of the gala that captures and communicates the ethos of Norway to the guests. We chose to combine motifs representative of the two countries, Norway and India.

Pine was placed in a strict, rhythmic, almost-engineered geometry; representative of Norwegian landscape and building tradition. An informal cloud-like installation of kites was composed atop the pine pavilion; representative of the many cultural festivities of India.

This cloud of kites would glow during the day, creating a serene sky of white. During the evening they would be projected with the colors of the Norwegian flag, alluding to the celebrations. The play of light combined with the natural rustling sounds of the kites, contributed to a fun, multi-sensory, and inviting entry to the Norwegian national day celebrations.
