CHAMPAVAT MOOLVAN

Rural areas are undergoing profound transformation due to migration and are at the forefront of climate change. SpaceMatters is working with grassroots organisations to provide habitat solutions in rural settings. We have partnered with Alaap on Champavat Moolvan, their pilot native afforestation project with the District Administration of Champavat and the local community. SpaceMatters is providing research and planning guidelines for transforming the 6 acres barren into native forests to complement work on implementing native rewilding through Miyawaki forestry and other methods. You can access the list of plants used by Alaap in Champawat. Please note that these are suitable for the micro-ecosystem of Champawat and its surrounding region. Native forest species should be selected based on their specific micro-ecosystem.

The projects under the KumaonBuild umbrella too, seek to create self sufficient, closed-loop cycles that weave together building, sustainability and livelihood to ultimately create strong rural communities and resilient habitats. You can click here for more information on the Kumaon Build Initiative.
