CHATURVEDI RESIDENCE
The residence, an existing row house with shared walls was to be remodelled. It is occupied by three generations of the family and hence we considered specific requirements of senior citizens as well as children being distinct user groups. The main design intervention was an internal sky lit courtyard which was introduced in the narrow space and became the heart of the house. It enabled the spaces occupied by different generations to remain visually and aurally connected, making it easier for them to interact despite the restricted mobility. The project benefited greatly from close exchange of ideas with the clients. The residence today has altered and grown to accommodate the family’s changing needs and it's heartwarming to see that the essential DNA of the space has remained intact.

The courtyard was reinterpreted for the Chaturvedi Residence, to enable vertical connectivity through the two stories of the house. Small slit-like openings provided on the west wall of the house along with an oculus flood this double-height space with day light.
