Baspa Bhawan is a guest house in Himachal Pradesh for the JSW Group. The design objective was to create a warm, luxurious setting with Nordic inspired elegance and local Himachali accents to celebrate the stunning beauty of the area while protecting from the extreme climate. Design elements that interpret and promote traditional crafts in a minimalist contemporary manner give each guesthouse a unique local flavor.

The focus was on sustainability and context-specific architecture. Warped tree trunks found on site have been given a second life, by displaying them as sculptural artworks in the lobby. Generous windows bring indoors the beauty of the site, while also reducing the dependence on artificial lighting systems during the day. Private rooms are pushed to the back of the site, while spaces of community engagement are provided at the front. A large corridor acts as the transition zone between these two spaces. The beauty of nature, at all times of the day, and throughout the year, can be appreciated by those in the guesthouse.

The use of contemporary furniture in tastefully decorated voluminous spaces, creates a sumptuous atmosphere in the guesthouse. The colour palette is restricted to earthy tones of browns and creams, such that the interiors are in congruence with the hills outside.
